Electronic Systems Technician

The Electronic Systems Technician (EST) program is designed to teach Peloton College students the basic skills for entry-level employment in the commercial and residential communication, security, fire alarm, integrated control, entertainment, and surveillance systems.

Electronic Systems Technician

Peloton College students will learn how to perform the duties of an Electronic Systems Technician or related jobs including assisting with low voltage cabling, basic electrical components and wiring, wireless system installation, installation, repair, and maintenance of control systems, and installation or repair of audio, video, broadband, media management, telecommunications, and voice/data systems.

Electronics Systems Technician program graduates will be familiar with introductory construction methods, safety, electrical drawings, and the National Electric Code as related to control systems.

The Electronic Systems Technician training program can be completed in less than 12 months or 48 weeks.  Day and evening classes are available.

Program Courses

The following courses represent some of the program curriculum for the Electronic Systems Technician training program
offered at Peloton College:

NCCER Core Course
basic safety, communication, construction math, tools, construction drawings and material handling.

EST Level 1 Course
various trade construction methods, bending conduit, low-voltage cabling, and electrical codes and standards.

EST Level 2 Course
DC circuits, AC circuits, switches, timers, semiconductors, and integrated circuits, test equipment, wire/cable terminations, power quality and grounding, integrated controls.

EST Level 3 Course
Buses and networks, fiber optics, wireless communication, site survey, project planning, crew leadership, rack assembly, system commissioning and user training, maintenance and repair.

EST Level 4 Course
Intrusion detection systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call and signaling systems, CCTV systems, access control, and life safety, wellness, surveillance and security and integrated control systems.

Career Development Course
interview skills, creating resumes, networking skills, job search strategies, and mock interviews.

Customer Service Course
customer service within a technical environment, customer relations – both internal and external, time management, communication skills, and customer follow up.

Electronic Systems Technician Careers

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), opportunities in the Electronic Systems Technician sector vary by segmented specialty. For example, employment of security and fire alarm systems installers is projected to grow by 10 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations1 while employment of electrical and electronics engineering technicians is projected to grow 2 percent from 2020 to 2030, slower than the average for all occupations.2
